Honeybees and Beekeeping – a short introduction

There has been a lot in the news in recent years about the plight of pollinators, with the honeybee in the forefront of the discussion. Destruction of native habitat through land development, negative effects of pesticide use and a parasitic mite that the honeybee is host to have all contributed to the dwindling of the honeybee population and the difficulties faced by beekeepers.
Adele Barree, a beekeeping hobbyist for 8 years, will present some facts on honeybee decline, describe the workings of the honey bee colony and give a few tips on how anyone, not just beekeepers, can help the bees. The program will conclude with a varietal honey tasting.
